INTERNS, EXTERNS, & VISITING STUDENTS
Hannah Mnayarji, FAU Honors College Intern
Hannah Mnayarji is currently an undergraduate student at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University, earning an honors B.S. degree with a concentration in Biology. She is completing an internship at FAU Harbor Branch, working with the Marine Mammal Stranding and Population Assessment Program. Hannah assists with photo-identification surveys of bottlenose dolphins in the Indian River Lagoon, and helps out with cetacean strandings and necropsies. She is also working on her undergraduate thesis project, which involves documenting the prevalence of native and non-native flora species at the FAU Ecological Site in south Florida, and comparing her results to data from previously reported surveys, to evaluate plant community shifts over time. After graduation, Hannah plans to continue in field research, and hopes to continue working with marine mammals.

Jasmine Gross, Past Veterinary Extern
Jasmine Gross graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2017 where she majored in Marine Science and minored in Biology. She is currently a fourth-year veterinary student at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and will graduate in May 2021. Jasmine is extremely passionate about a aquatic medicine and spent her clinical year getting hands on experience by completing clerkships with Cooperative Oxford Laboratory, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, and Loggerhead Marinelife Center. After graduation, she will be joining the staff of a general practice/emergency small animal hospital to build her skills as a clinician. She also plans to stay connected with the aquatic medicine field in hopes to work with marine mammal health and research in the future.

Elina Rantonen,
Past Visiting International Scholar
Elina Rantonen is a final year veterinary student at University of Helsinki in Finland. For her thesis research project, she is looking for relationships between renal interestitial fibrosis and chelonid herpesvirus 5 infection in juvenile green sea turtles. In her studies, Elina is especially excited about wildlife management and rehabilitation, and has participated actively in bird and small mammal rehabilitation at local wildlife clinics during her two exchange years in France. Her main interest is in aquatic animals, and during her free time she works as a guide at the local aquarium in her hometown. After graduation, she plans to apply for internships in exotic or zoological veterinary medicine and hopes to work with aquatic animal health and research in the future.

Kathleen Rafferty, Past HBOI Intern (Summer 2019)
Kathleen Rafferty graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 where she majored in Zoology and minored in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. She is currently a second year veterinary student at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent the summer as an intern at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute conducting a comprehensive health assessment on gopher tortoises in South Florida to determine baseline demographic and epidemiology parameters, and to explore potential causes for low fecundity.

Clerson Xavier, Past HBOI Intern
(Summer 2019)
Clerson Xavier is currently an undergraduate student at Centenary University. He spent the summer as an intern at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute studying the dynamics of stress and immunity during rehabilitation in chronically debilitated loggerhead sea turtles.
